Unexpected Fun

What great fun... found in unexpected places. An exercise ball. It's intended function is to torture the human body by making it work in unconventional ways, thus forming glorious toned muscles. We, collectively as a young adults group, decided to change it's function. We did not stray far, however, as human torture was most definitely involved. While crashing Pam and Gerrits' house on Friday night, we all started to get rather rough with these exercise balls. It turned into a full on battle when people started whipping them at each other from across the room. A couple times the guys went flying, exercise ball in hand, directly at each other. One landed hitting the wall, the other unfortunately had a worse fate. He ended up crashing against the closet doors. But oddly enough, after each fatality we found ourselves increasing in laughter. It was our true human nature revealed, we enjoy others pain. The more intense the pain, the more we enjoyed whacking each other to the ground with the rubber weapons. And the air. These things can really send you flying, it's unreal. So, as all of us know... in keeping with human nature, the fun had to end at one point. I was the point in which it ended. It was my overly aggressive swing the sent the ball straight across the room. So, aggressive, it caused a chain reaction of events: knocking someone to the ground, bouncing back up several times and eventually taking out a light. There was a bit of flickering, when finally the light died. The laughter, however, did not. And thankfully included in this chorus of laughter were Pam and Gerrit, proud renters and for the night maybe not so proud exercise ball owners. It was at this final stage of our fun where dreams of caged light fixtures in basements having no personal effects began. Dreams of rooms which would lend way to full out battles where perhaps the injuries would extend further than a mere light bulb. I will not soon forget this night of unexpected fun, with the exercise balls.

My New Toy

This weekend I gave into the marketing ploys of Apple and purchased an i-pod nano. But... now I can happily remain anti-social while working out at the gym. And perhaps, I'll go on recommendations from Emily and Josh and learn this very hip dance as well. I think I will enjoy this new toy.

Squash... my EGO.

It's official. Rodd schooled me in squash tonight. This was possibly the most frusterating and embarrassing display of athletic ability ever. On my part at least. And to rub salt on the wound a little, he was dead tired... complaining he had no energy. Let's just say that me being the over competitive crazy: didn't take it so well. But, after half an hour. I was cooled off and I didn't want to beat up Rodd for beating me anymore. Despite my bitter display tonight, I really do love this sport. We both, however, did not love the $40 parking ticket graced on the windshield of the car after. A great price to pay for a game of squash. When I get back some confidence... perhaps I will contemplate asking for a rematch. Possibly. I will also eagerly accept a challenge from anyone else. As long as you promise not to beat me. Deal?

Sunday Lunch

yesterday was the most epic young adults lunch ever... we didn't leave until 9. yah... 9 hour lunches, you've gotta LOVE sundays. kudos to Kelsey and Duane for being the good husband and wife and hosting us all day. (and no..that's a joke... Kelsey is not a girl: but it could possibly also be a girls name) i have to say, I haven't had en enjoyable Sunday like that in Calgary for a long, long time. playing all our crazy dutch games, but then eating very undutch food. it's so very sweet to be in the company of friends, dutch... dutch friends. there really is something unexplainable about getting a bunch of random people together from church, and being able to connect so fast with them all. I love it that the one thing that brings us all togehter is the amazing God we serve. So, I am thinking that it's my turn to play hostess again soon. i just really hope I'll be able to get my act together to make enough food this time!
